Now this looks intricate – with lots of losable bits. But full marks for effort, and imaginative packaging – up there with the glossy presentation of those luxury, beauty product advent calendars that are flooding the market this year.
“The calendar features 24 jewel-like miniatures board books, nestled in a three-panelled, stand alone backer,” says the advertising bumf. (I wish they hadn’t said ‘nestled’.) Each mini-book tells a different bit of the Christmas story.
It looks substantial enough to last several Christmases. One Amazon customer said they used it one year, then hung the books on the tree the next, and got the children to look for the right one every day through Advent. Children love tiny, miniaturised things, but will they be able to forgive the lack of chocolate?
